Patrick Cruywagen is the Editor of Land Rover MonthlyThis is his second editorial role at a 4×4 magazine, having previously been an Editor at SA4X4 Magazine. His book, Your Bucket List: 150 Must-Do Experiences in Southern Africa, published by Map Studio in 2014, is the result of a decade of Southern African travel while working for SA4x4 Magazine.

Land Rover Monthly is packed full of essentials on driving, modifying, maintaining, exploring and buying information for Land Rover enthusiasts everywhere.

1. What inspired you to get into writing as a career?

I have wanted to be a writer and a journalist since I was a wee lad. I just never knew it would be about Land Rovers! I’ve always loved to travel, adventure and explore and I guess a Land Rover is the perfect way to do just that.

2. What do you find to be the most challenging part of editing a magazine issue?

Editing one of the biggest Land Rover magazines in the world is definitely not a challenge, it is a privilege really. You are at the forefront of all that is happening in the Land Rover world. There is not better place to be.

3. Is there a particular issue you are most proud of?

I loved the Drive 25 issue we did as it worked and we sold load lots of extra copies, so my boss was happy too. It was a collaboration with one of our advertisers and they too loved it. So when you pull off things like that it is extremely satisfying.

4. What’s the best part of working at Land Rover Monthly?

You get to go on some pretty cool gigs, I recently took part in the inaugural Land Rover Trophy for 4 days at Eastnor Castle. That was a priceless experience others paid a lot of money for. I think editing a Land Rover magazine is a way of life really. Even when I go on holidays it normally involves a Land Rover, mates and an epic road trip.

5. Is there anything coming up that Land Rover Monthly readers would like to know about?

Our annual calendar will be included with the Jan 2023 issue, which is traditionally a best seller. That is one readers won’t want to miss out on. I like to think that every issue has something for every Landy fan in it!

6. Do you have a favourite Land Rover Model?

My own Defender 110 of course as it is pretty rare and from Africa, just like me. Plus it kitted out for camping, BBQs and cold beers. I call it the Green Mamba and it is an extension of who I am.
