It’s time for another #EmployeeSpotlight! In today’s instalment, we speak to Ellie Burnage, Exact Editions’ Marketing & PR Manager.

1. How long have you worked at Exact Editions?
I’ve been working at Exact Editions for 5 years. I started as a Customer Support & Administrative Assistant and over the years gradually took on more responsibility in account management and the company’s marketing activities, before becoming the Marketing & PR Manager in 2019.
2. Could you describe a day in the life of a Marketing Manager?
My main responsibility is to ensure a strong and consistent brand image across Exact Editions’ websites and social media channels, as well as maintaining robust relationships with our existing clients and attracting new ones.
I usually start by replying to any emails from my publisher accounts, and organising the next day’s social media across our channels. I am the main point of contact for many of our publisher partners, so I have meetings throughout the week to report on specific magazines’ sales and present our marketing tools ensure that our customers are making the most of our services.
The rest of my tasks for the day are varied and depend on which projects are ongoing; they might include social media analysis, designing a marketing mailer to attract new publishing clients, writing a press release, putting together a case study or streamlining processes to make my team more efficient.
3. What is your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of my job is definitely the variety, as no two days are the same as new ideas and projects come up all the time. It’s also very satisfying when a magazine lead I’ve been speaking to comes on board to use our service.
And it goes without say that I love working with the rest of the marketing team, who are close-knit and an absolutely great bunch!
4. What is a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
I am a big language enthusiast! I love both being able to express myself in different languages and learning about different cultures and ways of life.
I studied French and Spanish at university, living in the beautiful cities of Nice and Barcelona as a part of my year abroad, and I’m now taking evening classes in Italian at Kings College London.
I am also a huge Taylor Swift fan — I was in the top 2% of listeners in my Spotify Wrapped last year!

5. What’s the the most important career lesson you’ve learnt so far?
How to strike the balance between being prepared but also flexible. In an innovative industry such as digital publishing, the landscape can change so quickly, so you have to be adaptable to what’s going on around you.
6. What is one thing you can’t live without?
Definitely dark chocolate (particularly if it’s combined with anything pistachio-flavoured!)
7. What do you like to do in your free time?
I’m a big reader of anything and everything, and am also a keen runner. I’ve just moved to south-east London, so I’m very fortunate to have Greenwich Park nearby as part of my new route.
Quick-fire favourites…
- Meal?
Jacket potato with tuna and cheese (inarguably the best topping combination!)
- Holiday destination?
It’s got to be Greece — I love the food and the crystal-clear waters.
- Karaoke song?
‘Hopefully Devoted To You’ by Olivia Newton John, from Grease.
